MEN VALUE SUCCESS AND ACHIEVEMENT
|
|
Probably the biggest problem in relationships is that
we conveniently assume that our spouse is just like us. Bear in mind
that people are different. The science of astrology suggests that there
are 12 kinds of people, modern psychology puts people under 16 personality
types, Sufi teachings recognized 9 categories of people, whereas 'modern
personal growth material' put people under four. In addition to differences
in personalities, men and women are not only physically different but
also psychologically different, from each other. Men value power, competency,
efficiency, and achievement. They struggle to prove themselves and gain
power and skills. Their self-esteem is determined through their ability
to achieve results. They experience fulfillment through success and
accomplishment. If you ask them something that they do not have or would
not like to give to you for some reason, they will feel threatened and
will withdraw. Never make them feel bad by asking for something that
they cannot give or will not give.

Jabir b. 'Abdullah (Allah be pleased with them) reported: .. Then came 'Umar and he sought permission and it was granted to him, and he found Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) sitting sad and silent with his wives around him. He (Hadrat 'Umar) said: I would say something which would make the Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) laugh, so he said: Messenger of Allah, I wish you had seen (the treatment meted out to) the daughter of Khadija when you asked me some money, and I got up and slapped her on her neck. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) laughed and said: They are around me as you see, asking for extra money. Abu Bakr (Allah be pleased with him) then got up went to 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) and slapped her on the neck, and 'Umar stood up before Hafsa and slapped her saying: You ask Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) which he does not possess (Sahih Muslim) |
